Am I Doing Enough?

Homeschooling parents unite! This question "Am I Doing Enough?" seems to be the unifying question among homeschooling parents all over the world. When I was in my first year of homeschooling I would literally wake up in the middle of the night and have waves of panic as this question permeated my mind. We often have a tendency to ask this question when we only spend 10 minutes on handwriting for the day or perhaps a week goes by and you haven't done any math worksheets. Gasp!

Now despite my panic stricken nights that first year, I've since settled down and remembered just what it was like to teach in the school setting. Trust me when I say your ability to teach at home at a one on one setting is way more effective than sitting in a class of 30.

One practical tip that has helped me reduce anxiety in our homeschool environment is that of setting monthly goals with the kids. For each subject we have a month goal calendar and where collectively ( my boys and I) talk about what we want to accomplish at the end of the week and the end of the month. By doing this they have a stake in their education and they can have a sense of accomplishment when goals are met.

By being a bit formulated in this approach we can look back at all those weekly monthly set goals and say my gosh look at all those things we accomplished. I do believe we are doing enough.
